Florida Legislature Goes Into Special Session
Posted by NCF912Project
The Florida Legislature goes into Special Session tomorrow (Tuesday, July 20, 2010) to consider putting a Constitutional Amendment on the November ballot which would allow the voters to decide on a ban on Offshore Drilling in Florida waters.
State waters run from shore to 10 miles out. There is already a law banning drilling in Florida waters, but last year lawmakers tried to overturn it. That is why Governor Crist says a ban needs to be written into the state constitution. To follow this special session, go to www.myfloridahouse.gov – select Special Session 2010C; this will allow you to see the other bills that have been filed and may be acted on during the Special Session. There is also a place where you can watch the live sessions or watch them once they have been archived. You can also find contact information for your representative by clicking on Representatives on the top bar. Call, fax or email and let them know how you would like them to vote on the issues during this Special Session.
It is said that these Special Sessions cost the taxpayers more than $50,000 a day – a very good reason for them not be up there very long!
